There is a wide selection of restaurants that serve a wide range. From Turkish cuisine to international cuisine with fish, as a local specialty, fresh from the sea. In the bustling nightlife around the harbor cafes and bars are drawn together, opened untill 3 to 4 in the morning!
Plenty of shops, supermarkets and a large weekly Friday market that gives you the chance to see local life and to negotiate bargains.

Alanya is the city of 2 bays divided by a rocky headland which is crowned by a mighty Ottoman castle. Below is a beautiful harbor, guarded by the red tower of the 13th century.

History of Alanya

In previous years Alanya was a small fishing town discovered by pirates, whose inhabitants lived mainly from agriculture and trade. According to legend, the Roman Emperor Marcus Antonius and Queen Cleopatra of Egypt married here in 32 BC and Antony gave the city as a wedding gift to his wife.
The Seljuk built the present Alanya into a major port. From here they shipped their goods from the area of Konya.

Mosque Alanya

Alanya has been known by many names throughout history. Korakesion; Kolonoros (beautiful mountain); Alaniye (Alladin city of the discoverer) and Alanya (where the sun shines 300 days) is the name the city today is familiar to.
The city only began to grow with the arrival of Alladin Keykubat who, after 5 years of siege, in 1226, finally captured the town. He finished building the Alanya Castle, with 150 watchtowers, a shipyard, hundreds of water tanks as part of the watersupplie, Turkish baths and mosques.

Alanya's name appeared only in 1934 when the President of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk visited the city. He did not like the name Alaiye andt changed it to Alanya.

Climate of Alanya

Alanya beach Alanya enjoys a typical tropical Mediterranean climate where the sun shines more than 300 days a year, the temperature in winter is never below 10 degrees and the average temperature in summer is around 28 degrees. The average temperature for one year is 19 degrees.
The Damlataşgrot, a cave, also acts as a spa center for asthma patients. The temperature inside is a constant 25 degrees. Access is from the western beach.

Helpful tips

Alanya Transport in Alanya occurs mainly with the City Bus. To the outskirts of Alanya people still used the dolmus wich leaves from the dolmus bus station (in the center of the city).
